Children’s Mercy Kansas City has a patent on a device (MercyTAPE) and methods to quickly estimate pediatric weights by combining wo separateh measurements, e.g., girth and length. The “MercyTAPE” displays the estimated weight with no need to consult ancillary numerical tables. This device is calibrated for ages 2 months to 16 years and a companion “BabyTAPE” is available for weight estimation in infants, pre-term-3 months of age. This innovation is applicable in trauma emergency situations where timing is critical to understand weight for tasks such as medication dosing or other medical intervention.
