About Us

The Calm Caterpillar is a pediatric MESH (Mental, Emotional, Social Health) toy company creating research-informed tools that help children regulate emotions through play.

Founded by educator and mindfulness specialist Sarah Habib, Calm Caterpillar translates evidence-based breathing and coping strategies into sensory-friendly tools designed for real pediatric environments.

Our products are used by families, schools, therapists, and Child Life Specialists to support children experiencing anxiety, medical stress, sensory overwhelm, and big emotions—helping kids build coping skills in developmentally appropriate ways.

Our Innovation Story

Calm Caterpillar was created to address a common challenge in pediatric care: children are often told to “take a deep breath,” but are rarely given tools that show them how—especially in high-stress medical settings.

Founder Sarah Habib, an educator with extensive experience teaching mindfulness to young children, recognized that traditional, language-heavy approaches often fail when children are overwhelmed. Calm Caterpillar bridges this gap by transforming clinically supported breathing and mindful movement techniques into tangible, comforting tools children can hold, squeeze, trace, or breathe with.

Each product pairs guided breathing cues with sensory input such as plush textures, gentle weight, or movement—making them especially effective for Child Life Specialists supporting children before, during, and after medical procedures, hospital stays, and stressful transitions.
